As the middle child of three older brothers and two younger sisters, Shawn HereamI Dunbar has always had the soul of an entertainer. Following the steps of his older brothers, he became infatuated with music and writing at a very young age. “My brothers would always try to push me towards sports. But after the games I would go home, sit in my room and find instrumentals to write to in hopes to get on a song and perform with them.” Although he participated in a few school talent shows, it wasn’t until after his junior year of college that he decided to voyage into a career of music and entertainment.
In 2009, HereamI teamed up with his best friend and cousin to form his first group ever, The Individuals . It was during this time that HereamI began to develop into a true recording artist. Limited by lack of resources, the group worked with what they had. “All we had were some beats we pulled offline, a Mac computer, and ourselves; we didn’t even have a mic. We would crouch over and rap into the little speaker connected to the computer. We recorded three albums like that.” Though they may not have been creating the most professional sound, it was through this experience that HereamI began to hone his writing skills and stage presence. In 2011, when the group decided to call it quits, HereamI was fortunate enough to be introduced to two very talented artists/producers, Braden Palmer & Michael Vanasek. “For 2 years I would drive 3 hours to get to Braden’s studio, Stuckhog , almost weekly. It was the first time I actually had a mic to rap into. Braden taught me what it meant to have a relationship with the mic, as well as a level of professionalism that I hadn’t yet attained.” This resulted in features on three published albums: The Parade , War On Itself, and Stoic . Though HereamI grew a lot from his time in Stuckhog Studio, it would be his relationship with Michael that helped him find his voice and show him that he was a true songwriter. He was able to showcase his growth on their first project Isness , and continues to do so with four more projects ready for release.
Looking to level up once again, HereamI has teamed up with his oldest brother, Founder/CEO of Unstable Intellect, Monroe Dunbar. Through the label, HereamI will be releasing his first two EP’s the summer and fall of 2020; Act:1 & Act:2 . Two uniquely different sounding projects that showcase the multifaceted artist.
